Events & Calendar

Middle Spring Watershed Association meetings in 2019 will be on Tuesdays:

8 January, 12 March, 14 May, 3 September, and 12 November

at Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. Meetings start at 7 pm.

20 April thru 27 April StewardSHIP Week at Shippensburg University

25 April (Thursday) Earth Day Festival at Shippensburg University. MSWA will probably have a stand with information about stream ecology and promote our rain barrel conservation program.

27 April (Saturday) Ship Shape Day. Annual community cleanup in Shippensburg with participation from various civic groups, local clubs, and students from the University. MSWA members clean sections of the stream. Hardy souls get in the stream, which is often cold, but much of the cleanup is done by people working from the stream banks who can stay warm and dry. If you've never done it, you may be amazed by how much garbage is taken out of the stream each year. Meetup is at the Firefighter Activity Center, 33 W. Orange St., prior to 9 am.

18 May (Saturday) Kayak/Canoe Outing unless there is bad weather or adverse water conditions. TBA.

18 May (Saturday) MSWA Picnic Details TBA

6 September (Friday) Stream Day & Rubber Duck Derby. (Probable Date, not yet finalized)

Traditionally MSWA's Stream Day has been on a Saturday morning in September. This year we are looking at holding the event on a Friday afternoon, in conjunction with local elementary schools. Stream Day is a small, community fair dedicated to awareness of Middle Spring stream ecology, on-going projects, and general community education. There are arts and crafts projects for kids. There will also be photos of MSWA in action, aquariums with small fish and other creatures from the stream for kids to see, fly-tying demonstrations, and other events. Lunch food will be available for sale.

Time: Setup at 11 am, events start officially at noon, rubber duck derby at 2pm.

Location: Along the stream behind Shippensburg Borough offices, on Burd St, across from McCune Lumber.
